Well stay tuned because today we’re going to walk you through the dynamics of Salt Water fishing, how to get started, the equipment you need and of course just how awesome Salt water fishing actually is!
Let’s start with a brief history of fishing:
Fishing been around since the day’s of Cavemen, yes, it’s changed dramatically since then, but fishing or angling was and still is a way of catching food. This of course has changed dramatically since then, yes we do still fish on a major commercial level but fishing/angling as a sport or hobby has grown tremendously. It’s important to note that there are various different types of fishing such as freshwater or saltwater, typically with rod, line, and hook.
You may not think it, but fishing as a sport actually has been around since about 2000 BC shows figures fishing with rod and line and with nets in what is today known as ancient Egypt . There are actually earlier references as well. One really such famous reference is a Chinese account of about the 4th century BC refers to fishing with a silk line, a hook made from a needle, and a bamboo rod, with cooked rice as bait. Interestingly Bamboo rods are still used today and in fact are one of the most expensive types of ‘Fly Rods’ on the market. Additionally references to fishing are also found in ancient Greek, Assyrian, Roman, and Jewish writings, so in other words fishing has been with us for a long time!
A little know fact is also that one of man’s earliest tools was the predecessor of the fishhook, a gorge: a piece of wood, bone, or stone an inch or so in length, pointed at both ends and secured off-center to the line. Interesting hey!
How do I get involved in fishing?
Firstly, what you need to do is decide on the type of fishing you would like to partake in; for example either fresh water, salt water – You then need to decide on the style of fishing you want to enjoy such as reel fishing, lure fishing, bait fishing, fly fishing etc. We would advise starting with fresh water fishing and starting with a simple bait and hook option; this will be the cheapest option to start and will allow you to progress further into the sport and enjoy some of the higher end fishing; who know you could be entering some of the competitions soon and making a good fortune from some of the prizes that they offer.
What do I need to get started fishing?
This will depend entirely on the type and style of fishing you want to start with; the basics would include a rod and reel, then, depending on the type of fish you will either need to use live bait, lures or spinners. If you go to a good fishing shop such as http://reelsaltwaterfishing.com/ they will be able to advise you on the best type of equipment needed to get your fishing career started, believe us when we say you won’t regret it!
